Protecting the Jamie in Your Life

As Heughligans, we strive to do good things with our Fandom. We regularly fundraise for leukaemia & lymphoma research (Bloodwise, a UK charity supported by Sam) and Youth Theatre Arts Scotland (for whom Sam is a patron). Now we are asking for your help (not your money) in supporting a charity which provides information and education about male cancers (testicular cancer, prostate cancer, and male breast cancer), Cahonas Scotland.

Cahonas Scotland “exists to educate the public in matters relating to male cancers, reducing discrimination and stigma.” Testicular cancer is the most common cancer affecting young men aged 15-35. Testicular cancer is also one of the most treatable types of cancer if discovered early; and over 95% of men can be completely cured.

So, now you’re wondering how you can help. It’s simple! Cahonas Scotland is participating in Microsoft’s Upgrade Your World project. Microsoft will pick 5 charities and award them a grant of $50,000 (£32,000). You can cast your vote for Cahonas Scotland by logging into Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram and tweeting/posting the following:

I vote for @CahonasScotland to #UpgradeYourWorldUK #Vote

By doing this, you’ll be casting a vote to fund this worthy charity and bringing awareness to male cancers. Protect the Jamie in your life, encourage monthly self checks and visit the doctor early. Education saves lives. Visit for more info.

Love, Loss, and Outlander

I’ve been trying to gather my thoughts for several days to write this blog, but when I saw today was #FriendshipDay, I decided it was apropos to do it now.

This week the Heughligans suffered a loss. One of my co-admins, Amy, lost her husband of 29 years, unexpectedly. Bill was one of a small group of “Outmanders” who shared a love of all things Scottish and was a great help to the Heughligans and several other fan groups. Bill was a standard bearer for Outlanders United in the Tartan Day Parade in NYC this year, and helped with our fan gathering at Colonial Williamsburg.

Two years ago, when Heughan’s Heughligans was formed, I’d never have thought I’d make such deep, lasting friendships as those I’ve cultivated within the Outlander fandom. We may have been brought together “all because she wrote a book,” but we’ve remained together because of love. My fellow Heughligans are like sisters (and brothers!) I never had. We’ve shared our ups and downs, witnessed births and deaths, supported each other through hardships, and celebrated each other’s successes. I may have never met you, we might not live in the same city, state, or even country….but, that doesn’t make our friendships any less valuable than those in my own hometown. Your heartbreak, is my heartbreak. Your loss is my loss.

Take a moment to tell those you love just what they mean to you. Send them a message, tweet them, call them, write an old fashioned letter. Whatever you do, let them know what they mean to you….

So, Heughligans, this blog is for you. I appreciate each and every one of you. I’m grateful that you allow me to do this “job”, you are my happy place, you are my rock, you make me laugh daily, we are FANmily. To my fellow admins, I say this: I love you. You get me through life. I don’t know what I’d do without you. Thank you.

RIP Bill

Comic-Con San Diego and Other Things That Make a Heughligan Cry

Okay, I admit it. It took me two weeks to feel like I could confess this and actually post it in a blog, but here it goes….

Seeing pictures of everyone at Comic-con, watching the Outlander panel, and seeing fans getting autographs from Sam, made me cry. I know, I know, I’m a grown woman who feels like the teenage girl who missed the best party in high school. Luckily, I wasn’t the only one feeling that way.

So, after I boo-hoo’d into my whisky and had a chance to gain my composure, this is what I discovered about Comic-con International…

Sam Heughan looks hotter than ever…especially in leather.

Diana Gabaldon is writing an episode of Outlander…OH EMM GEEE

Caitriona Balfe is possibly the most beautiful woman on the planet….inside and out

Season 2 of Outlander is a lot more difficult to film, but we will see Sam in a kilt (thank goodness, say it with me…#kneeporn)

And last, but not least, Sam Heughan as Hook….shiver me timbers (watch out Colin O’Donoghue!)

Next year, I will be there! I swear! Because if a girl has to feel like she’s missing the best party of the year, she better at least be missing it there with her nose pressed to the window.
